I think he'll probably give some version of an apology when he sees just how badly it's gone down, but it obviously doesn't mean anything.

If he does decide to double down, that's really an indication of how nasty the next 9 months are going to be.
 
There's no way they can apologise for it without implicitly conceding that the joke is completely inappropriate to make in the first place. Which they also can't do because he's been making the joke every week for the last year or two.

Sunak's spokeswoman also said the PM "always leads by example” and that unlike Starmer he has never "sworn at the despatch box".

He simply doesn’t have the sensitivity or nous to clip that bit of his script out. That would take some empathy. I genuinely think now he is amoral, possibly sociopathic, and doesn’t see marginalised human beings on the same level as himself.
 
Was it unacceptable the other eighty times he made the joke? And if so, why didn't Keir Starmer say anything then? Why weren't the lobby journalists scandalised then?

Is it okay to be a bigot as long as you check there's nobody affected in the room?

But I'm glad to see pushback for once, and maybe it will lead to more people understanding the cruelty of this sort of thing.

Well, yes. But I think some conservatives have some wherewithal to hide or deflect from their disdain when its practically possible. Sunak doesn't seem to understand that, he absolutely 100% thinks he's saying the right stuff all the time. If he is a sociopath, he's not using his skills to his advantage.
 
Yeah I think it’s the absolute diminished empathy to the point of psychopath is what gets me. But then he lacks the glib charm of a true psychopath. He’s just a transparent pathetic cunt.
 
You know, I typed up a big rant about the hypocrisy of Labour feigning horror and disgust but, fuck it. I'd sooner kill myself than vote Starmer or Sunak.
