Lauren and Penny Branning make their comebacks tonight which presumably means the disappearing act from Jack since Christmas will soon be coming to an end.

iPlayer spoilers
Bit of housekeeping since it’s a new year and the first post… Since 6am iPlayer releases are now the norm, can any discussion of specific details from those episodes please be kept in spoiler tags until they go out on television at 7:30 that evening? Thanks!!

I never understood why they replaced Harry Reid with Max, unless he didn’t want to return.
I remember the then-exec producers Kate Oates and Jon Sen saying something about having “a different vision for the character” when he came back last time, which as we now know was him being an absolute prick to everybody at all times.

Could you please edit the title to be EastEnders 2024? With the second E capitalised

I might not survive another year of being annoyed by it :(

I didn’t think anybody actually typed it like that in real life so I went for consistency over accuracy but sure. :D

Giving Ben that human trafficking storyline quite soon after he returned, and then all the genuinely quite nasty stuff with him threatening to kill Martin, really didn't get the current incarnation off to a good start. I remember being quite baffled by what they were doing with the character - it wasn't until the first of Pam's brief guest appearances that he felt anything like Ben whatsoever for me.

The current Ben is my favourite. He does snarky ever so well, which fits in exactly with what I'd expect from adult Ben.

I just googled George’s Dad Eastenders and it came up with DARREN MILLER. Then I was reminded he fathered a child to HEATHER TROTT.

I hope they don't kill off Ben, surely some time off screen before he returns with a new/old head would suffice.

I didn't watch for years but I always think it's a shame he came back from his time in prison as a muscle queen. It would have been much more fun for him to remain evil and queeny.

Still obviously DEVASTATED that they killed them both off as I think if they hadn’t both Ronnie and Roxy would have been back on the square by now. :(

Gripped by Michelle Collin's passport drama

What exactly does she expect the airline to do if she's lost her passport?

Mediocre episode for me tonight, but you know, the bar has been so high for weeks I'm happy to let it SLIDE.

Do we think Nish is surviving then?

Not much to go on yet but what do we think of PENNY? I feel like her storyline could be a bit reminiscent of Chelsea's when she first returned, but hopefully there are some twists and turns.

My first instinct was that it’s basically the same story so hopefully all isn’t as it seems.

At first I thought they were implying she's a wheelchair bound escort which would be FAB.

everytime I look at Penny I keep thinking she’s about to burst into Royals.

Feels a bit of a drab start to the year after the Christmas drama which seems to have been forgotten about.

Have they not mentioned Nish, or have I just zoned out at that part (it happens quite a lot these days) and can’t remember seeing it?

It's been a bit quiet on the Nish front - he's in an induced coma, so they can leave him off the table as long as they like, I suppose.

I suspect they did a lot of THE SIX filming away from the other actors and storylines, and therefore we've got the remaining cast episodes now.

Obviously Whitney is leaving so they need to tie that up ASAP. I couldn't care less about Sonia and Reiss doing IVF and George's parents... well I imagine that's as thrilling as it's gonna get. I imagine we'll get more SIX stuff soon.

Yes him spending her life savings is going to come back on them for sure.

It’s feeling vaguely reminiscent of the episodes after Stacey was revealed as Archie’s killer. It took weeks for the scripts to catch up with the live episode and in the meantime all her dialogue was deliberately vague until she disappeared for a few weeks :D

At least we got a few aftermath episodes with this storyline.

The Six storyline is set to be back at the fore next week, so it’s only a brief pause - as someone has pointed out, it probably means that two batches of episodes could be filmed at once and they could get ahead of themselves before the Christmas break.

I wonder if the official line as far as the rest of the cast were concerned was that Keanu put Nish in a coma and did a runner? There haven’t been any scenes so far that would require any cast members outside of The Six and Nish to know the full extent of what happened at Christmas.

They should do a flash forward to him waking up on Christmas Day, and then leave things as is until then :disco:

Reactions: COB
Pretty much all the male potential victims have been out of the show since Christmas and never really mentioned apart from Jack who was obviously not going to be the victim with Penny and Lauren being immediate returnees dependent on his character and Rocky but it was known that he publicly quit the show in August anyway. You would think that Avani and Nugget (who have been in nearly every episode since) would have mentioned or been concerned about Nish being in a coma/in hospital for a week now.
