Self Esteem - A Complicated Woman

This one should really have a hit on it. It feels like it's NOW OR NEVER for her

I mean I like it quite a lot, but on the strength of that track alone, where's the progression? It sounds like it was lifted straight off Prioritise Pleasure.

Unless the plan is just to put that out quietly as a reminder of who she is, I suppose.

I'm not sold on this one yet. It kind of feels like an X Factor version of the big songs from Prioritise Pleasure.

She’s released a few things over the past year - Big Man, Love Second Music First - which sound quite a departure from PP

So we shall see

Enjoyed both of these tracks but they don't seem to be listed on the new album sadly

I prefer Love Second Music First of those two. They were different for her but I wouldn't say either are top tier.

No id agree, which is probably why they’re not on the album, but I think are evident of some experimentation.

Maybe this first single is a bridging track between projects

I don’t know if it’s META, the inauguration and the gradual rolling back of LGBT rights but this is HITTING this morning

It was GREAT:

This plus the interview Fetch posted have made me interested in the new album

A new song from our Rebecca:

Quite good on first listen

I absolutely LOVE THIS now. I hope it takes off, although the 59k views on this youtube are a bit of a worry.

6 Music seem to be caning it at least.

I really like her but I am very over the uplifting choir thing. I hope it isn't all over the new album.

The tour is selling pretty well. she had to add another night in Glasgow and a few other dates are low on availability. It's not as if she had a ream of actual hits from Prioritise Pleasure.

she seems to have enough of a fanbase to tour etc and probably the album will open well. but the last two singles having sub 200k on Spotify is awful. Sophie E-B's last one is almost at 500k after two weeks.

I do agree the music is mostly not very good this time

Not sure she did huge numbers on streaming last era did she? Having been to the West End theatre album launch show, it seems her audience there at least was largely 35 plus, so not likely tp be streaming the shit out of what she releases.

I was not hugely sold on the new material until seeing it live this week, and she sells the hell out of it (which is what got me on board last album tbh after seeing her at festivals). I am really looking forward to the album on Friday, stand outs (bar the singles) on first listen from the show were Mother, The Curse, The Deep Blue OK, and one that even feels like it could be a tik tok Hot To Go type Tik Tok hit, might be called Cheers To Me?! If you were a fan of the last album, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the new one.

Her biggest hit, I Do This All The Time, is just shy of 10m, so no she’s never been a streaming force. But still, her last album was such a slow-burn breakthrough that you’d think the hope would be that she’d be able to build on it. For her to be struggling to clear 200k suggests the new stuff just isn’t connecting…

It's had 5 stars from Rolling Stone and DIY, on the flip side

Although 3 stars from Financial Times

The album is definitely a mixed bag, but I Do and I Don't Care really hit me on first listen. Essentially a sequel to I Do This All The Time with a liberal dollop of pre-40 anxiety.

My copy has arrived but I'm not quite in the mood. Briefly thought Amazon* had stiffed me with an unsigned copy but the signature is inside the gatefold.

(Yes, I used the link...also I was buying a few bits so it made sense to chuck it in. I used to be able to get TSR stereo splitters from Maplin...no more...)

It’s definitely a mixed bag and a sort of album of two halves (but just jumbled halves) a couple of instant standouts - including the opener VoR mentioned

Number 4 midweek.

I've given the album a couple of listens and my picks are Cheers to Me (good big pop song) and Lies (easily the most successful of the dance racket ones).

Yeah. Cheers To Me is the best thing on there. So catchy.

Fun Fact, the LGBT choir I am part of was approached to record with her on a track (before this project) but the organisers said no because they couldn’t fit it in 🙃 🫠

Not saying it would’ve led to us being on this but… idiots.

I thought Cheers To Me was going to be the lead song on release week, as at the London shows, she asked the crowd to do the dance from the video on tik tok, cos she needs all the help she can get on the streaming sites, and wants to buy her parents a caravan 😂 we love a self aware queen! Assumedly a promo push will come for it in due course.

She also said the last album peaking at number 11 was the most her thing ever and hoped this one would go top 10, which it looks like it will now even if sales collapse. So good for her!

She is defo the kind of act that really sells the songs live. I am personally loving the album but perhaps it would have taken a bit more time if I hadn't seen her perform it. It's similar to the last album but with a bigger budget so I hope more of you come on board eventually with it!
