A couple of things worth noting here.

For one thing, he's had to do a catalogue deal of some sort to get this out there but I can imagine, in particular, a reissue of "World Peace..." doing good sales, given how brief its physical lifespan was.

Also, he's waiting for a UK label to "step in". Pffft. You'll be waiting, mate. But, given that it'll be a straight up manufacturing and distribution deal as all the artwork, mastering etc will be done for Capitol, I dare say someone will look at the situation, make 4 different colours of vinyl and suck up the criticism.

If he were talking about how high streets and to some extent cities are becoming increasingly interchangeable these days then he may have a little bit of a point but that is more due to commercialism and uniform consumerism probably escalated by the internet and social media. Nothing to do with diversity of people. I guess rags keep interviewing him as they know they’ll get some sort of sound bite out of him. They should just ignore him.

Things have, of course, gone from bad to worse.

Moober recorded a further new album which he publicly announced was finished and for sale "to the highest bidder" in March 2023. It remains unreleased. he also got the rights back to the other album. This is also unreleased.

More recently it seems Moz has been trying to get some interest by exploiting The Smiths' legacy. He opined that Johnny Marr turned down a 'Smiths' tour that was to be the two of them and whoever. He then posted artwork for a reissue and compilation, both of which were unfeasably shit and, sure enough, Marr blocked them. Now, Morrissey has just found out that Johnny Marr has held the trademark "The Smiths" since 2018 and he's having another shit fit.

I had a little look over at the Morrissey Solo forums to see how they’re handling this revelation and even they’re roasting poor Steven. What a loser!

I really don’t understand why he isn’t considering a nice quiet retirement at this point.

Although once a powerful voice for the alternative crowd of oddballs and misfits, I don’t think there’s a place for him now. The fact he absolutely can’t keep his mouth shut and is purposely controversial about sensitive issues only makes it worse.

It's been one of the saddest and most unedifying sights of my cultural life, watching what has happened to him. He was so important to me between the ages of 10 and 16. His music started to go into decline quite quickly after The Smiths and by the time the 90s arrived, I was really opening up and he faded with only a few things catching my ear. But the last great record is now 20 years behind him and he's just become a hideous pantomime.

Still, this is why you never have heroes.
