LET'S DO THIS.

as part of my 90s-classics-of-other-genres-beyond-pop-and-dance education I've been listening to various albums I was too young for at the time. I started with Dummy by Portishead, which I've been revisiting a lot, and the brilliance of Teardrop persuaded me that Mezzanine should be next.

so whether you're a Massive Attack fan or a pair of fresh ears like me, JOIN ME tonight at 8pm. I don't think this one will be at any point BORING!

@dmlaw @Suedey @jivafox @Gangsta Nancy Lam @VoR @Suomi @Beverley @RJN @POP! @Tisch @Iguana @Lucille @Soldi @funky @COB @Ag @ZenGiraffe @Rhythmbarbican @Ellie @ManicKangaroo @Dance Witch Abortion

:disco:

I shall do my best. I think I might be able to join if someone falls asleep after the barbecue and rosé :disco:

Although I never fully got into them. They're quite the Sunday night sort of act.

This is on at the same time as the Scottish leaders' debate, but I do love this album!

One of my very favourite albums, but sadly I can’t make it tonight.

I don’t really know much from Massive Attack aside from Unfinished Sympathy so I’m hoping this’ll be a nice treat :disco:

Started.

I'm listening on CD and had entirely forgotten that, whilst all of the artwork is black and white, the disc itself is bright orange.

Will probably only manage so far in this. That's a long ass album.
Being on the original CD, I will also be dropping out after track 11. It's quite long even if you do that.

Angel is amazing. It's a six minute song that really needs to be six minutes long to build properly.

I should note that I'm quite stoned right now so if I ask why a song has been on for 37 minutes, it's just a problem with perceiving time.

Angel is quite a VIBE. love that big fat bassline chugging away under it :disco:

08 Angel

I may have to watch 'The West Wing' episode which features 'Angel' after this. it's one of my favourite ever TV uses of music.

do Massive Attack fans also stan Portishead, or were they the Girls Aloud and Sugababes of 90s trip hop?

I should note that I'm quite stoned right now
