Big Brother (ITV Series 2) - Launch and Week 1

Marcello's younger brother is certainly very STRIKING (albeit definitely not unique or queer :()

I just came on to say it was all very DISAPPOINTING. Love Island esque contestants are NOT what we are looking for in BB. We need different ages, and people from completely different walks of life. Total own goal in casting.

The launch being on a par with the series average last year isn't great, considering the launch last year got over double what the average ended up being.

Obviously the launch last year was simulcast on ITV1, but as I've said before, I don't think that attracted much more of an audience at all - it just gave people a choice of where to watch it.

If this series falls over the course of the run like the last one did, it doesn't look good. Unless they are happy to chase that 16-34 demographic at the expense of everyone else, but that feels like a bit of a shame to me.

If it is the 16-34 year old demographic they are after then I suppose it is them who they have catered to with the contestants they have put in.

And again, I'm not sure if it's the machinations of algorithms, but pretty much everything I've seen on X about it has been negative, in terms of the casting, at least. And surely if people don't like the cast, are they likely to watch? Don't you need people to root for?

Also that figure for ITV2 is still good, no? It’s lower than Love Island but I think Love Island far outperforms the station average.

It is a very disappointing figure when you look at the rich history of Big Brother but it being a cable channel show now how mainly cater for that 16-34 year old demographic it’s not terrible overall depending how it holds up. The figures last year were ATROCIOUS considering it was on ITV1 and 2 at the same time.

Yes, it's good for ITV2, undoubtedly. But down on Love Island.

Last year it had 22% in the overnights compared to 8.1% last night - but again that was ITV1 and ITV2 so it's not an exact comparison.

I was looking to see if i could see the split between ITV1/2 last year which I'm fairly sure I posted, but if I did it's buried. And I'm not entirely sure how useful it would be anyway.

I did find that last year it did specify that it attracted 700k of 16-34 in the overnights though - so presumably that figure is significantly smaller this year, considering how much smaller the total audience was. Unless pretty much everyone outside that demographic has dropped it and they are the ones holding on. It seems by the choice of casting that's who producers are squarely aiming at.

They'll be fine with that 16-34 % figure. Can't cost that much to make and there aren't many other better alternatives for stuff that pulls in the viewers to advertise to that group. It does feel a lot like they've decided there were too many huns/gays in the house last year and opted to try and chase more men in that demographic as viewers this year though.

[Deborah Meaden voice] And for that reason, I'm OUT.

I hope this improves… I’m absolutely not feeling any of these!

I know it’s SOON but still, first impressions!

Young Scots Kratz doing everything he could to try and not confess that a family member obviously got him the foot in the door for the job working for the royals :D

Also I have to say the prerecord last year felt like it worked better. Having tonight just be the 'Lily off her face being a howling attention-seeker' show from night one wasn't great - it was more interesting seeing how they all started to gel on day 2 straight away with the second episode last year.

(also last year's mix genuinely just felt a lot better! Basically all those straight men are the exact same genre of straight man.)
