Gavin & Stacey

It didn't feel try hard to me. If anything it wasn't trying hard enough. It felt like everything was a reference or a throwback. That said, it still made me warm and fuzzy.

Matthew Baynton wasn't in it, was he? He's the only one I noticed.

I appreciated the effort to give Gavin & Stacey something to do, only to ditch it after about 20 minutes. :D

I am gutted we didn't find out about the fishing trip.

I did like it. And obviously it was easy to watch. But I was left a little underwhelmed. Although Nessa is still amazing.

Ruth Jones is always good value but it wasn't a great bit of television, and the wedding onwards was sitcom writing on autopilot.

The wacky bus chase was so painfully James Cordon. Straight out of a long cancelled 70s sitcom.

This was like a latter day Ab Fab. Flashes of comedy amongst the caricatures, but only raising smirks these days when the original stuff gave full on belly laughs.

For goodness sake you lot! It was excellent from beginning to end! You’re such a miserable lot sometimes…!!!

I just can’t imagine anyone writing anything better to conclude the story.

I liked it! Nothing life changing and it was mostly a lap of honour but, in the context of Gavin and Stacey (basic mainstream comedy done well), it was a good send off. I laughed a few times and didn't get bored despite the run time.

I know the joke with the fishing trip is that you're never going to find out, but I did hope they'd point towards something other than the faintly homophobic 'the closet case uncle fucked the gay nephew'

I loved it and found it to be a perfect ending to it all. Nessa as usual was the standout for me and I was in tears at the end. Absolutely fantastic work!

I thought it was wonderful Christmas night viewing.

The bit when Nessa said goodbye to her son did get me :(

Nah, it was pretty average. Couple of good moments, but Pam was wasted and the whole thing just felt really safe. About half hour from the end I paused it to see how long was left and was annoyed at how long we had to go.

I mean, thanks and all that, but MEH.

Well it was certainly better than the flop Outnumbered one on tonight.

They really needed to give them more than one grandchild.

The reviews I have read all seem to have been on par that it was a perfect ending. It was always a weird twisted love story between Nessa and Smithy and I am not sure what other way they could have went to make it such a perfect ending as they did. They even brought Pam Ferris out of retirement ffs.

I agree with Sheena. I think the plot was fine and made sense - it's just that there weren't many belly laughs and it felt a bit drawn out.

Just watched Outnumbered. There was enough of the formula for me to get some enjoyment out of it, but as a one off Christmas special, why a cancer storyline? It's not that I think humour couldn't potentially be derived from it and how the family responded to it, but not in the context of a one off special, several years after we last saw them.

As It was, the show just felt really weighted down by its own central premise, and most of the laughs were unrelated to the storyline.

I really wasn't wanting another Gavin & Stacey Christmas special as I found the one a few years ago pretty underwhelming and trying too hard to recapture the magic, but this one won me over. It was just the perfect conclusion really.
