The UK: The Keir Starmer years (1 Viewer)

And people absolutely do care about fly tipping. It’s on a par with potholes in terms of things that get moaned about in local government meetings.
I don't doubt that, but it is still a bad solution to the problem! Even if limited to more organised fly-tippers, what sense is there in crushing vehicles rather than seizing them?

Yeah, crushing the vehicles is silly. Putting a few more resources into catching large scale offenders and seizing the vehicles to stop them doing it again should be good politics, particularly when you factor in the cost to councils and/or land owners to clear up the fly tipped waste.

I guess sometimes you need to brandish THE STICK to get people to follow the law. If people think they might end up with their range rover turned into a CUBE maybe they'll think twice about leaving their sofa in a CREEK.

It's a bit GAMMONY but also probably strategically announced today as vast swathes of the country's more rural bits go to the polls to vote reform in their local elections.

We don't have them this year because a third of the council is up for election every year and then on year four they have a fallow year like Glastonbury.

We have the West Of England Mayoral Combined Authority (i imagine only a handful of people know what that is and what it does and I don't fully consider myself one of them), and I'll vote Green.

Not feeling inspired AT ALL, but i figured the inevitable low turnout is more likely to favour Reform.

Nothing here. Election cancelled as our council is being merged with the wider area council, which is just asking for ABSOLUTE SHITE

As much as I love to see Keir Starmer looking miserable, Farage laughing his arse off more than cancels it out.

If it’s from 2021, that would be when the Tories were in the middle of their vaccine bounce and Labour were still quite unpopular. It would have been surprising if they had managed to lose very much from such a low starting point.

The likely Hull mayor is 2012 gold medalist Luke Campbell.

He won.

Does that make him our first elected official to have got his arse out for Gay Times?

Also: fuck him and his rancid politics

Apparently the solution is to fire Ed Miliband and ditch Net Zero

:nononono:

Even I fucking despair of these people if that ends up being the takeaway.

On the one hand, getting rid of net zero seems like a bad idea. On the other, I am gradually getting more and more in favour of destroying the planet.

They now have control of councils in Derbyshire, Kent, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Doncaster, North Norhamptonshire, Durham and West Northamptonshire

Sounds like a who's who of places I won't be visiting anytime soon.

I'm quite skeptical of extrapolating THAT MUCH from a bunch of random council elections in places like HARTLEPOOL and KENT.
Well yes, and council elections are an unreliable national electoral forecast, but I guess it's a hint of the direction of traffic.

Interesting the Tories lost 68% of their seats, and Labour 65%. So they've been hit roughly the same amount.

Lib Dems were up 78%, and the Greens up 128%.

Big night for Reform BUT they are still in 5th place in terms on council seats held. I expect them to overtake the Greens next year.

We need to elect Farage PM once, let him get booted out of power for insurrection, and then elect him again, before we draw even with America. I guess then we win on the Brexit tie-break.

Meanwhile another, even more rancidly evil populist figure rises from the fringes and the whole sorry dance continues…
