The Traitors - Episode 3

I did find Aaron's panic attack a bit hard to watch and I felt like the game should be dramatic but not actually cause ILLNESS

The only problem I have being Team Traitor is that for me, the odds seem too stacked in their favour. But presumably that will change as the ratio changes.

It's a 12-episode run isn't it? In which case you've got to give the traitors the upper hand at the start otherwise it won't last long enough.

I'm a bit of an emotional wreck (hence why I wouldn't apply for this or even play Moopy Mafia) so I think I'm inclined to side with Aaron over John because I could hard relate with not being able to make it through that round table without taking 5 minutes to myself.

But what really irritated me is that either Aaron's reaction was real and John is utterly lacking in empathy to get so riled with him, or he's just playing the game well. And I think John's overreaction and aggression was borderline histrionic, and pretty much worse than what he was laying into Aaron for.

That's fair enough - but like I said, it does just mean that I can't really give myself to being right behind the traitors at this stage because they have all the power and don't particularly need to play well.

Is Aaron what defines “alpha male” at the arse end of 2022?

In terms of being young, good looking and having muscles I'd say so yeah. John had a similar complaint about the young strapping men rushing to be in the team that rowed the boat in the first challenge (even though that obviously made the most sense).

Just because you have a certain build and personality doesn't mean you can't be emotional as well.

I would say he is more of a pretty boy than an alpha male personally. He doesn’t strike me as a strong leader.

I love a man showing his emotions, but if he has ADHD and is overly emotional to the point he has panic attacks which may be detrimental to his health I don’t think he should be on this show in the first place.

I’m not sure if it is an age thing for me but looking at Aaron as an alpha male is almost like looking at my 15 year old son as an alpha male and I just don’t see it that way.

I don't see Aaron as alpha male at all. But there's a lot of transference on John's part.

I know what you mean. I just meant he's in that "group". Agreed though he's more of a member of the group rather than the leader of it.

I'm not sure there is an obvious leader of the faithfuls actually? Andrea as the matriarch and maybe Ivan as the figurehead people want to be friends with? He's playing that quietly though at the moment.

I can’t see John lasting long, and would have thought the traitors may have been on his tail in order to cement the theory that Aaron is a traitor in everyone’s heads. Or maybe that’s too obvious?

I really like Andrea and was a bit gutted when it looked like the traitors were getting rid of her.

Hannah is probably one I would have thought comes across as a leader in what we have watched so far. In the first eviction of Nicki (sp?) she spoke first, went straight in on her and the rest followed suit. It will be interesting to see if she is as influential moving forward.

It actually reminds me a bit of JURY DUTY that I had to do a long time ago. A middle aged man tried to plant the seeds initially, and everyone else seemed to follow suit until I stepped in with a different train of thought and others then seemed more comfortable to step forward with their thoughts rather than just take the easy option with going along with what this outspoken narrow minded man thought.

If there's any sign of him struggling again I hope the producers step in and withdraw him - it's supposed to be a game after all.

Who do we think they’ll pick to be judged?

I can see them putting at least one of them up for it (maybe Wilfred) to get him out of the firing line?

I’m a little unsure how the ‘three people getting judged’ twist is working??

I had to use the phrase "vile queen" for John last night. Horrible man. His jealousy at not being a young fit alpha male is palpable..
I feel like it’s not jealousy, but just a lower tolerance for people like Aaron (straight, white, conventionally attractive - although to my preference he may as well be a lesbian) pretty much getting whatever they want in life. So maybe it’s more resentment than jealousy.

Regardless, I think it was unfair of him to be so angry at Aaron and not empathise that being accused like that must be so stressful. The first time I was on trial I pretty much reacted the same way. Aaron is more sensitive than the archetype that John thinks he is.

A total aside, but the concept of alpha males is junk science based on a study of wolves that has been thoroughly debunked by the person who did the study in the first place, yet has captured the world's imagination and poisoned the already MURKY WATERS of masculinity.

Yeah but those first two who put themselves at the bottom were TOTALLY alpha males

Interesting that you say that as @HerSereneHighnessAnniFrid said that the show is a good advert for getting rid of juries in trials

Although to be fair they do at least have more evidence to go on than these lot start with, so no WONDER group mentality dominates when there's so little to go on otherwise

Aaron is as far from alpha as a generic lad could be. In fact there's no offensively blokey men in their at all. They're all either gay, nice or pretty boys.

John is as close to bitter queen longfully mourning their lost youth full of missed opportunities as you can get. Super single I presume. Can't imagine this appearance will see many dicks flying his way.

John mentioned a partner didn't he?
