This was recently added to BBC iplayer and i watched it all in one sitting.

Absolutely heart wrenching, must watch, queer tv. Sobbed throughout.

Anyone else watched?

As a Gay Who Has Gone Through the Adoption Process™ I'm a bit dubious about watching a dramatisation about something I've actually done. But the algorithm and friends keep pushing it my way so I may give it a go.

I don't want to sit there constantly saying THAT'S NOT HOW IT HAPPENS though so I'll try to have an open mind when watching it. I wonder if we get to see them fill out the same details on 52839 forms like we did? :disco:

Yes, I have downloaded it to watch, heard a very good review on Rsdio 5. I tend not to watch much tv so when I do I binge a series at a time so it’s next on the list.

It is not autobiographical but the writer has apparently gone through the adoption process with his husband a couple of times. That doesn't mean they won't jazz it all it up a bit of course...

I watched the first episode and I thought it was rather good. I know it is Pride season but nice to see in prime time all the same (and there was one brief sex scene that felt quite strong for 9pm BBC1).

Watched the first two episodes last night. It made me laugh/smile a fair bit, made me feel sad a lot and also found myself cringing here and there. Good stuff. Kinda dreading watching episode 3 though.

Watched episodes two and three over the weekend. Well that took a turn...

I thought it was very good. They could have made a fluffy gay adoption drama and this definitely wasn't that.

I know some of the stage scenes were dream sequences but I did feel the rapt audience for those that didn't appear to be were a bit much.

Oh I'm afraid I didn't enjoy this much at all. Started promising, but rapidly went downhill.

It just felt very clunky and dated - like one of those earnest issue-based gay movies you'd get in the 90s, complete with fairytale gay bar and sacrificial boyfriend.

Which is fine, not everything has to be 100% realistic, but the execution was just totally off and tonally weird IMO. I almost cringed out of my skin during the Mad World musical number.

Also, I hope this doesn't sound terrible, and again I get that there's an element of dramatic licence and necessary constricting of the timelines, but I really wasn't convinced that he *was* in the right place to adopt the kid at the end.

BAH HUMBUG etc.

Well I didn’t want to comment on anything that might be a spoiler but yes I was also surprised at the outcome in terms of the adoption.

I felt like it would have been more realistic if they'd opted for something more bittersweet where he didn't get approved but was able to stay in the kids life in a different capacity.
