today I revisited this for the first time since... 2015, probably.
in case anyone has forgotten (and who could blame you? this side project was low-key even by Kylie's standards), Kylie and Born This Way producer Fernando Garibay released two EPs in 2014 and 2015. the first was Sleepwalker, which came out 6 months after Kiss Me Once when her stock was basically at an all time low, and comprised 4 songs recorded for and left off Kiss Me Once.
a year later Kylie + Garibay dropped with 3 more tracks, recorded after KMO (I believe), all collabs (with Shaggy, Sam Sparro and Giorgio Moroder).
Black and White is a bit of a weird genre-hopping number that transforms into a bit of a mechanical electro banger by the end. If I Can't Have You is such a stunner with a bit of that classic KM melancholy and a nice thumping beat.
in an interview that came out this week she was asked about Your Body and... doesn't seem to have any memory of it
a shame, since it's a shimmery robo-Kylie delight with some quite dazzling synth work.
between the releases of these two EPs she left Parlophone and parted with Terry Blamey, so maybe there's a rights issue preventing them being put on streaming. or maybe Kylie really has just forgotten them. I'm very intrigued about how this project in particular came about - she clearly felt she had good chemistry with Garibay, but strangely never worked with him again. the whole saga is just a bit weird, but the end project is definitely a forgotten treasure in a career full of random collabs and forgotten treasures.
does anyone still play these songs? @Eddie I'm sure you have thoughts.
