on youtube the other day and the competition was almost all white up until the mid/late 90’s.

I think most fans have failed to notice EBU's changes to the jury judging criteria this year. Those changes greatly benefited Cha Cha Cha and finally made acts like this competitive again.

It just proves that you're never going to please everyone no matter what scenario you go with. I think it stands out more this year because Käärijä was so far ahead with the public, got a ton of 12s while Loreen received none which is a TAD jarring. But she came 2nd with the public anyway and he did well on the juries so nothing feels unfair here - unlike with Norway in 2019.

Loreen is the earliest winner in the running order for 20 years (I think?) and while 9th might not seem like much earlier than some, it did feel like she had a bigger mountain to climb and there's a good chance her vote would have been higher had she performed even a bit later.

I dont know what this new judging criteria is and whether Heidi Range adopted it or was only brought in to rate sultry middle eights, but 4th or whatever it is for Finland, given for 50% of the song he brought total NOX to the stage, is both fortunate and arguably generous

If all this is true, hopefully we see less KEiiNO disasters and more results like this. The two most popular songs and the favourites came top 2 and one of them won, doesn't feel like you can ask for much more unless you want a system tailored specifically for you and no one else every single year.
