Taking inspiration from an H.E. Bates novel (and possibly Martika's Love Thy Will Be Done), the Welsh-born former music teacher's biggest hit is my number 1 go-to song for glossy 90s saccharine, and one of the biggest US #2s of all time, being held of the top by the ubiquitous Macarena for 9 weeks.

Mine too, LOVE IT. It was so distinctive. It being insanely big in America is funny too.

It was clearly written with 10 year-old future queen segment IN MIND! :disco:

Ditto.

1996 was the year I first started following the charts and it's slow rise to the top 5 from a 30-something debut (which seemed increasingly rare then) was a joy to observe.

She had a minor US hit a couple of years later duetting with Richard Marx with this utter CHEESEFEST from the Anastacia soundtrack.

It's like Nobody Wants To Be Lonely as performed by a pair of shy civil servants.

That said I kind of love it. It's so massively of (4 years before) its time.

God a VoR-Kratz-Lou school disco would have been quite something back in the summer of 96. A one-two-three combo of Donna Lewis, Wannnabe and Naked would have set the dancefloor ABLAZE. :disco:
