WELCOME my little octopus dumplings, to sunny (if it wasn't night-time) Osaka, land of fire, kitchen of Japan.

Thanks for deciding to join me on a voyage through contemporary Japanese and Korean pop music. The playlist will have 5 Acts - as most of us are getting on a bit, I have taken the liberty to add some breaks to the proceedings, but you might want to stick around during that time anyway.

THE PLAYLIST

ACT I : Future Pop

Perfume – Tokyo Girl (2017)

With Kalavision finished, I can now declare Perfume (I think) the most successful of my unsuccessful entries in the ASFM 2020 canon, with their recent song “Future Pop”.

However my ultimate favourite girl band can kick things off with their #2 hit from the same album “Future Pop”. I love these girls to bits, so please check out my thread all about them that I keep bumping regardless.

have you seen them in concert?

Too much English in this for Kalavision (Kala take note)

I was going to enter a dark electronic nightmare by them (Fusion) but I realised of what few lyrics there are, they're mostly just the word "Fusion" :D so it was INELIGIBLE

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu – Family Party (2014)

From the same producer, Kyaru Pamyu Pamyu cemented her position as the oddball of Japanese pop, with inventive videos and serving Japanese weirdness that your deepest stereotypes could never.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu! And with a different song than that one we would know!

Generations from Exile Tribe – G-Energy (2018)

I know boybands are a bit of a dirty concept these days, but the concept is still thriving in Asia, with the massive Exile franchise spawning several groups including ASFM disasters J-Soul Brothers, and these young guys who focus on the more poppy sound. There are shades of PWL in this though, aren’t there?

I had the pleasure of seeing live last year before the end of days, and a great show it was too.
