Captain Sir Tom Moore DEAD

I don’t want to be mean but I feel the same way as some earlier- the whole thing grates with me and I’m sure he was personally a lovely bloke and feel sorry for his family and all that, but I don’t get the outpouring of grief...
The fact he used his military status, just feeds into a long line of WW2 inspired nationalism. Again not him, I don't know his politics, but he was totally used as a tool in that never ending campaign. The BBC gushing over him right now is pretty cringey.

Where DO all the guests come from? :D They can't ALL be former posters who stropped off, surely.

I'm not going to knock him for what he did - however wittingly or unwittingly, he exploited the fact that an elderly war veteran could spunk a load straight into a child's hamburger and still be "one of arr 'eroes". There's no doubt it was his ex-military status that got the money out of people's pockets. But so what? My problem is that Boris Johnson spent it all on a bung to a finance company that had never supplied PPE in its life and delivered a pile of useless crap for which the country never got a refund.

I’m somewhat tempted to move it to the community forum and see if anyone logs in :eyes:

(i won’t obviously)

The statement about his death on THE FOUNDATION's website is quite something, reading it you'd think he was SAINT TERESA OF CALCUTTA and had devoted his WHOLE LIFE to feeding the lepers.

I see he also had a book out :eyes: and a partnership with Squarespace for the #WalkWithTom initiative. The whole thing is just so unsavoury.

There's no doubt he was exploited but we can't really tell the extent to which he was a willing participant.

That said, I have a feeling we'll find out exactly how much the family have creamed off when they have to publish the accounts.
