AS5 E06: The Charles Family Backyard Ball

I think it was between Juju and Cracker, but Cracker was a worthy winner - which I sort of say through gritted teeth.

Why? Because at this stage of the series in no way does Cracker feel like she should be joint top on wins - I would put her way below Juju and Shea and even Alexis for overall consistency. She was lucky I think to get the first win the other week. She was useless in snatch game and I'm sure a few other tasks and twice now she has been a TERRIBLE lip syncer - yet that first one which we all know she never came close to winning, she was given a joint win! So not only was the lip sync clearly fixed, she is now joint leading the pack. All this while being an annoying unlikable little bitch for the first few episodes (which thankfully seems to have cleared up/been edited out now). It does not sit right at all.

To her credit - her runways are great. The character this week was proper funny.

But top 2 she AIN'T.
 
At the last few posts since mine, I was never claiming she is Top 2 and I am also happy for her to be slagged generally. I just think reading her for what she did this week was OFF considering she was clearly either the best or second at the absolute worst, which was what my earlier post was about
 
Once again Juju was the funniest thing about the episode overall though. I feel at this point she's being screwed over a little and NEEDS that win next week. It seems shocking she hasn't won more given her value is always 10/10. Her runways might be less advanced but they nearly always look good with thought put into it. It feels like the judges can always use that as an excuse to nitpick with her and deny her a win.

Shea is...still amazing but she is absolutely getting away with some questionable shit. Probably the least entertaining for me this week with a look that could easily have been pulled to pieces if it was on someone else.

Alexis over Blair in the top would have made this such a solid final 4, but I can't help but feel happy for Blair. She clearly tries SO hard even if it often falls short. Her runway was stunning and unfairly maligned, I mean the theme was vague as fuck anyway, there was no connection between any of their outfits.

No I agree with that - she was fab this week and no matter if I hated her (and I don't, at all, despite my earlier post) she absolutely deserved credit here. Cracker made me LAUGH - who'd have thunk it.

But let that be the end to this pack-leading now please because she still offers so much less than Juju and Shea (unless she genuinely knocks it out of the park next week in which case, fair enough...)
 
Bob says in the Pit Stop that in black communities there's a trend to have big images of dead relatives and their names grafitti'd or painted on cars, banners etc, so I think Shea was playing on that and chose a character from the show rather than some random dead person.

Also, looking at the second looks again, I love Shea's but agree that the wedding veil train thing was a little distracting. Blair's was a hot mess.

I do feel like Jujubee is being sidelined for some reason, like most others. But I also feel like her work here is done, in terms of reintroducing a Queen who appeared long before the show exploded and a lot of the current fandom picked the show up. Of all the Queens from the first three or four seasons who have been brought back, I'd say she's been the most successful in that respect. Arguably only Manila comes close.

I mean I'll still be super pissed if she doesn't make the final, but mission very much accomplished in terms of restamping herself all over Drag Race Herstory.

Definitely Manila and Juju, but I'd say Tatianna was the most drastic revitalisation of an early queen, in that she was much more obscure than the other two.
 
I admit I forgot Tatianna, probably under the weight of all the girls who have gone in the 4 years since.

When they get around to recycling AS2 girls, she'll be up there with Detox at the top of my wishlist.

But Tati has just disappeared off into the ether again hasn't she? Unless I'm missing something.

Would be great to have her back on AS10.

Also whatever happens now, Juju will come out of this with the best image and profile of the season I think.

However, seeing such winner worthy queens not even make the final is just horrifying. The very THOUGHT of Blair (or even Cracker) getting there over her...I really can't deal with that :D
 
The queens left seem like the sort to vote fairly here and send the weakest home. Unless Blair wins (!) then I'm struggling to see another outcome. Blair's argument will probably consist of not receiving the worst critique of the week, if she's lucky, and pointing out how someone bombed terribly not for the first time in either the challenge or runway. She'll say she's developed and grown more than anyone else, they'll try to make it look like the other queens actually contemplated another outcome for five seconds to create mild drama before the inevitable happens and she goes.

Of course this is top 4 so some shenanigans may happen. I'd love for Blair to out do India as a last desperate attempt :D
 
There’s no way Blair is winning.

The biggest weakness of season is how undisputable Shea’s expected victory has been. The remaining queens seem to all think that only Shea can win; the biggest drama of the season has been about how two other queens dared to vote for Shea, Alexis was voted out because she might have run a campaign agaist Shea. And Juju, Cracker and Blair have all always voted for the same queen as Shea has. It’s all going her way. The battle will be for the runner up spot.
 
I didn’t get the whole “I’ve grown so so much during this season” from Blair. I mean she’s probably better going in than she was leaving S10, but during the season she’s barely even had any critiques to do anything with, and she’s at the very least not been allowed to say much about it to convince me that she’s not just treading water with decent looks
 
Yeah I don’t think Shea’s going to get Manila’d, Juju is too smart to vote for her and Cracker has questionable judgement but does seem to feel like the report card is more important than any off-day.

so yeah I’d agree Blair’s only chance is for her to win next week. At the comedy challenge. Good luck B!
 
I'm like a week late or whatever, but that's where my enthusiasm for this season is r

Top All Star of the Week as definitely Roxxxy, who basically just stood on the stage for two-and-half minutes and outwatted Cracker with her intense star power. To think she was considered an also-ran on her own AS season. Which says it all.

Alexis's dress was a mess. Alexis has been a mess this entire season. Alexis is also to blame for the most annoying Drag Race girl since Eureka: Miss Vanjie. I didn't care for Alexis to be in the Top 4.

I think I am still stanning Season 9 Shea because she is not turning anyone's party this season.

At this point, I'm hoping for a twist next week, involving Gia Gunn returning to the competition in a pair with Derrick Barry, the main reading challenge being another RuPaul roast, with Gia reading Ru the house down boots and everyone self-eliminating in an act of submission to a real All Star.

I mean the top 4 are so clearly in that order it's ridiculous. Though I'd love Blair to take out Cracker.
 
Oh and I genuinely think Juju has brought so much more to this season than Shea. I'm just talking about the editing and clear narrative they're going for.

That might be a bit unfair, Juju makes what she does seem so effortless compared to Shea who is trying so hard it’s sometimes distracting.
 
Unlike the other two, at least Shea trying usually has a result.
 
Shea is superior, but Juju is so much more fun.

(I guess this is how some people felt about Alaska vs Katya)
