I really like a few songs by them, Wonderwall, Whatever, Little By Little. But I don't think they deserved to be as successful as they were

Maybe just right time, right place

I try to avoid thinking about them on the whole.

But one thought I do have is that this thread shouldn't be in this forum.

The thing I find remarkable about them is that were basically done within 2 years. Supersonic was released April 1994, Don't Look Back In Anger in February 1996. Every song that they are known for was released within that 22 months period and it was diminishing returns thereafter. Ask any Oasis fans for their Top 10 and only the occasional contrarian will include anything from the 13 years that followed.

I think we all wish they'd stopped in 1996.

Noel has been much more tolerable as a solo prospect, especially when he seemingly said fuck it, and just started having fun with French scissorists. "Holy Mountain" is wonderfully bombastic NONSENSE.

(Yes I know the band consisted of more than Noel and Liam but they were definitely the figureheads). DIS-GUST-ANG.

The ridiculous arrogance was part of the fun :D

Don't Look Back In Anger is the one I like the most. Horrible lyrics on the whole, but that was never Noel's strong point. I could probably name at least another 3 that I enjoy. Their b-sides were supposedly very strong, but I've never delved that deep in the murky well.

I’ll bite.

They are one of the best British bands of the last 40-50 years, musically the Arctic Monkeys are better but give me 90s Gallagher swagger over the insufferable prick Alex Turner has turned into.

Sure a lot of it was hubris, but for a brief period riding the cool Britannia wave being a teenage Oasis fan was the tits.

Its easy to write them off, but look at any Liam Gallagher gig around the world today and half the fans are youngens, the Oasis legacy has aged tremendously well, and you have to admit Liam has aged like a fine wine, he really is a genuine rock n roll legend

Their b-sides were ridiculously good, which was part of their problem. Imagine chucking "Round Are Way" or "The Masterplan" away as b-sides. And on the same single! Someone should have taken Noel aside and said "look, Round Are Way is a single, sit on it, we'll put it out in the summer and it'll be number one for a month". But no-one had that calm head, everyone was figuratively and literally high on success. No-one even had the guts to suggest that the word he was looking for was "Our".

Talk Tonight, Listen Up, D'You Wanna Be A Spaceman, Live By The Sea, Half A World Away, Acquiesce...better than 90% of the stuff on the actual albums.

Right, I'm making a playlist!

Liam just did a gig here and like @big ron said there was a huge turnout from teens right up to 50 somethings and beyond. The first two albums are both pretty undeniable, mediocrity followed in bulk with the occasional decent track.

In retrospect the 3rd album wasnt as bad, and as octy says the bsides were exceptional, and you cant ignore the album of them either

They were my least favourite group of the genre and honestly besides their 2 hits I struggle to remember anything else. Every other group of alt rock of that period was either far more interesting or generally better at it.

They had some great songs but like the Arctic Monkeys, it kind of went over my head. 🤷‍♂️

Top 5:
5. Lyla
4. D'ya Know What I Mean
3. Little by Little
2. Stop Crying Your Heart Out
1. Live Forever

Their poor mam, hopefully they can resolve their issues before she dies.

Blur, Suede, Pulp and the Manics were all better and that’s just a few off the top of my head. Of course I enjoyed the first two albums at the time and I agree they had some good B sides but their toxic masculinity and the way the misogynistic music press literally sucked them off at every given opportunity was shit then and it’s even worse now.
