One country that scored their first victory in the 10s, one former heavyweight whose glory days are long behind them, and one quirky former Yugoslav who never really got close, but are usually worth watching.

Please submit your votes in the indicated scoring formats by no later than 12.00 noon on Sunday 2nd February.

Azerbaijan

Joining the Contest in 2008, Azerbaijan quickly became a major player in Eurovision, scoring their first victory just 4 years later. They seemingly pour a lot of money into it every year, though their reliance on Swedish producers has rendered them oddly faceless compared to their neighbours. Still, an excellent collection of pop songs here.

2010: Safura - Drip Drop
2011: Ell & Nikki - Running Scared
2012: Sabina Babayeva - When The Music Dies
2013: Farid Mammadov - Hold Me
2014: Dilara Kazimova - Start a Fire
2015: Elnur Hüseynov - Hour of the Wolf
2016: Samra - Miracle
2017: Dihaj - Skeletons
2018: Aisel - X My Heart
2019: Chingiz - Truth

Ireland

Still the record holders for most wins at Eurovision, though Sweden and the Netherlands are snapping at their heels these days. Ireland had been treading water since the end of the 90s, but this was the decade when they truly went off the boil. Even I can't defend most of this shower. Just do your best, darlings.

2010: Niamh Kavanagh - It's For You
2011: Jedward - Lipstick
2012: Jedward - Waterline
2013: Ryan Dolan - Only Love Survives
2014: Can-Linn ft. Casey Smith - Heartbeat
2015: Molly Sterling - Playing With Numbers
2016: Nicky Byrne - Sunlight
2017: Brendan Murray - Dying to Try
2018: Ryan O'Shaughnessy - Together
2019: Sarah McTernan - 22

A country that generally feels like they're TRYING, even if the results can vary. I really like Slovenia at Eurovision, and I suspect one day they'll land on something special. I'll say this though, just plough through that first one if you can. It does get better. :D

2010: Ansambel Žlindra and Kalamari - Narodnozabavni rock
2011: Maja Keuc - No One
2012: Eva Boto - Verjamem
2013: Hannah Mancini - Straight Into Love
2014: Tinkara Kovač - Round & Round
2015: Maraaya - Here For You
2016: ManuElla - Blue & Red
2017: Omar Naber - On My Way
2018: Lea Sirk - Hvala, ne!
2019: Zala Kralj & Gašper Šantl - Sebi

Honestly I couldn’t even begin to hum ‘Hold Me’ and it came SECOND? Is this when the naughty Azeris were bribing the juries with hay and feed for the pigs and donkeys?

In stark contrast to most probably everyone in existence, I think Ireland may be the only country who haven't sent a song I've disliked over the past decade. Even on an 'off year' they're still 7/10

:D COMING NEXT: @Jacques describes the Lithuanian selections as being “quite good really” and “some of my favourites” :tongueout:

Azerbaijan is my favourite country of the decade, I love so many of them and only one dud.

I'd say they only had a 50% hit rate but with how their selection is shaping up this year, I'm ready for them to become a powerhouse of the new decade :disco:

*nation and juries select something absolutely dreadful as per*

I'm not ashamed to admit that Chingiz gives me a funny feeling. Like I'd let him do over-the-clothes things to me and I wouldn't even press charges afterwards.

My married (male) friend said something similar about him back in May, so I'm putting it down to him being unreasonably beautiful as opposed to any sort of sexual awakening.

Well we’re always here if ever you want to talk about it, and here’s one for that COLLECTION PRIVÉE

(Might be best to check for leakage before nipping out for a Bounty)

‘Skeletons’ is definitely a highlight of the incomprehensibly accented (:disco:) Azeri genre and indeed life in general, although I do wonder whether the staging was a bit too enclosed (à la ‘Statements’) for its own good. Still fabulous though OBVIOUSLY

I'd forgotten all about the HORSE and it cracked me up all over again. :D

In Kyiv, the walled stage gimmick meant those of us standing to the side couldn't see any of Dihaj's performance, so it was just three minutes of staring at THAT looming over a bit of shoddily assembled plywood.

Chingiz is the most beautiful man who has ever entered the contest (maybe bar Sergey) but CHRIST he was a dick about it

Isn’t he horribly homophobic or some such? Probably has a secret yearning for the back door sex hole (and / or Milan Stanković)

And as for THIS, which in live performance was about as good as disgusting dead-eyed donkey Simone but was actually entirely FABULEUX in studio format

MIRA-! MIRA- MIRA-! :disco:

I remember feeling almost PERSONALLY offended by the mira- mira-! part back in the day. It somehow doesn't sound as ridiculous to these ears right now, in the context of a whole decade of silliness from Aserjeben.
