The Contest Bible
Sannex is a well-known modern Swedish act in the dansband genre. With Andreas Olsson at the helm, the band has won numerous Guldklaven Awards and one Swedish Grammy, and they have taken part twice in Allsång på Skansen, the favourite Summer sing-along show.

Half of the album ”Crossroads”, released in 2018, was recorded in Nashville, and the second half was recorded in Sweden, with the Jill Johnson producer and Melodifestivalen veteran Amir Aly. At that time, Andreas performed at the legendary Blue Bird Café in Nashville.

The four members of Sannex are working adamantly to show what a dansband 2.0 looks like.

So, it turns out Greta Svensson and Hans Thorstensson are pseudonyms of Smith & Thell, which has pricked my ears up towards this Sannex track more than expected.

The Contest Bible
Clara Klingenström is a 25-year-old pop artist and songwriter from Gotland, Sweden's largest island, located off the east coast. All of her family are musicians. After the debut single ”Ensam i en stad” (”Alone in a City”), released in the Spring of 2019, her career has steadily advanced and put her name on the musical map. In 2020, she followed up with the radio favourite ”Sommarminnen” (”Memories of Summer”).

Clara has been acknowledged for her honest, naked, and highly relatable lyrics. She is also the lyricist of her Melodifestivalen song , ”Behöver inte dig idag” (”Don't Need You Today”).

#4-7: Eric Saade med ”Every Minute”

The Contest Bible
Eric Saade had his breakthrough when as a 19-year-old entering Melodifestivalen med ”Manboy”. The next year, he won the contest with ”Popular”, finishing 3rd in Eurovision. Eric has been touring and scoring hits songs both in Sweden and internationally. The single ”Wide Awake”, a collaboration with Gustaf Norén from the band Mando Diao, entered plenty of charts across Europe in 2016.

When taking part in the TV show Så mycket bättre in 2017, where famous artists perform new versions of each other's songs, Eric got interested in writing in Swedish, and together with the Melodifestivalen 2020 sensation Anis Don Demina, he had a major hit with the Swedish-language song ”Postcard”. In 2019, Eric hosted Melodifestivalen, and now he goes back to his pop sound in English.

Oh I read Whal & Sami and suddenly got a bit excited. I imagine it must be a dark secret for hip hop people to write lyrics for a dansband.

Tess Merkel - Good Life

A slight surprise to some reviewers. More Pop than Schlager and more Army of Lovers than Alcazar. The spoken and almost moaned introduction is similar in style to Jean Pierre Barda’s. All parts are good but to some reviewers it feels very disjointed. The chorus has a 70's disco chorus ala Donna Summers.

Predicted: 3rd-5th


Lovad - Allting är precis likadant

Couple Miriam Bryant’s voice With Molly Sandén's lyrics and you have this. It is similar in feeling to her past singles. The ballad is nicely structured and can definitely get a place on many Spotify playlists. It gains a lot from multiple listens but can have a hard time to stand out. If it goes through AC it will probably get a decent placing, the difficulty is getting to AC in the first place.

Efraim Leo - Best of Me

Generic uptempo pop in the Ed Sheeran ballfield. Best of me could have been sung by at least a dozen other male artists, or pop boys. He is a male and a strong presentation could take this far.

Predicted: 4th-6th


The Mamas - In the Middle

What is expected but more ballady, classy and less warm. The song builds but has less of a moment in the chorus. Woohoo parts, finger snaps and hand claps are all inclusive. Perhaps not instant enough.

Predicted: 1st-2nd


Sannex - All Inclusive

Sannex is nonsense lyrics to a party backdrop. Exactly what's expected but even stronger. Very joyous and catchy.

Clara Klingenström - Behöver inte dig idag

This ballad needs to be carried by her voice and stage presence. To her credit she has a strong voice ID that is similar to Melissa Horn’s fragility. The most similar Mello aentrant to her is Patrik Isaksson. A good mid-tempo with nice Swedish lyrics better suited for radio than music competitions.

Predicted: 4th-7th


Eric Saade - Every minute

His strongest entry by far and very international. This can definitely be a European hit. Very much Eurovision. It should be noted that it is unconventional in Eurovision to have the same chord progression and melody in both verse and chorus. As such the chorus is less instant than his previous tries although he makes up for that by having plenty of hooks throughout. Modern and stylish pop with a melancholic feeling throughout. The oriental influences are not typical Saade has been a positive surprise for many reviewers. The song doesn't necessarily feel like something made to win, more like "he's trying to make some Statements".

Although not my favourite I think Voices might Sweden’s best choice for a good result in Rotterdam.
 
Those reviews claiming Every Minute is Eric Saade's "strongest entry by far" as if Popular wasn't a GLITTERING TRIUMPH! :rolleyes:
 
The Mama’s are what is expected but less warm :D

Exactly, anyone claiming reviewers aren't crazy for 'Every Minute' are insane.

Saade's weak spot has always been the song. Each attempt has been efficiently instant but musically old fashioned and bordering lyrically dumb. If he can shore up those liabilities he can also expect huge gains in jury scoring.

The balance of a few I saw yesterday seemed to say it's a good Eric Saade song and a definite finalist, but not the definite winner they might have expected from Eric getting the pimp spot in Christer's last year.

The pimp spot seems to have lost a bit of its prestige. It went to Hanna Ferm last year with that... effort, which was in no way strong enough to close out the entire year.

Ulrik was robbed! A far better use of the pimp slot than the damp squibs that were "Youniverse" and "For You"
 
I quite liked BRAVE but Hanna was quite an odd choice for the pimp slot when Anna had THAT song and the Mamas were practically the reigning champions.
