Now that Festival Di Soldi is over, it's time to reveal that after a delay, unlike Eurovision 2020, the Kalavision Song Contest is FINALLY happening!
The Kalavision Reference Group (ie me) took a lot of comments and feedback on board and some changes have been made. Hopefully these will be little bit more popular than the Backing Vocals Gate of Eurovision 2021.
The old rule book has been ripped up and discarded. While the song and country link was a nice idea it was very difficult to manage, and some of the links were so weak that it became rather pointless in the end. Also, a lot of people didn't submit their entries and they had chosen a country someone else had wanted, so it seems unfair to continue with the country selection that was originally planned. so TLDR, We are wiping the slate clean and starting all over again!
So going forward, everyone will be allocated a country once all entries have been submitted, but the country will not necessarily have anything to do with the song.
My plan, if this is successful is to run one in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter and the format will roughly follow the format of the other contests such as A Song For Moopy and Festival Di Soldi, but to make things a LITTLE different from those contests there will be one KEY difference.
Each contest will have a THEME and your song has to fit that theme. If it doesn't fit the theme then it will NOT be eligible. The theme will change for each contest, and each one theme will give each edition a different flavour. It will also give people a little challenge to search for their song but I will ensure that themes won't be TOO restrictive.
The theme for the first edition of Kalavision IS...
FOREIGN LANGUAGE SONGS
By Foreign language I means only songs NOT in English will be allowed. If you are Dutch, then you can still enter a song in Dutch.
Your song MUST be on Spotify and YouTube but apart from that you are free to choose ANY song you like - any artist, any country, any year, any length, any genre.
Cover versions of originally English songs are allowed if the song is not well known - ie you can submit a Thai version of a Lisa Scott-Lee album track but not a Afrikaans version of Alexandra Burke's Start Without You. Songs which are partly in English are allowed if it's a line here or there like in K-Pop but not if there's massive amounts of English.
The song should ALSO be on YouTube, it doesn't HAVE to have a video but it should at LEAST be there in audio form, as these will be used for the Song Reveal Live Group Watch.
I'm including the Spotify rule because, frankly, it's annoying if there is a song missing from the playlist, and it affects my OCD.
So that is IT! I will open song submissions NOW, and you have until Tuesday 30 June to get your submissions in. With you submission, please send the link to the track on Spotify AND YouTube. No bio or photo needed. You are free to change your submission as many times as you like before the deadline but it is FIRST come FIRST served. If you do submit a song which has already been selected I will ask you to select another.
UPDATE: In addition, an artist can only be involved in ONE song. If they have already been chosen by someone else, then I will ask you to select another.
The dates are TBA depending on interest, but I am aiming to kick it all off on Wednesday 1 July!
If anyone has any questions then please ask here and I will answer them, but until then, happy searching!
