Eurovision Hangover 2024 (1 Viewer)

That ended a lot better than it potentially could, both with Israel not winning, nor winning the televote so any claims of juries ruining it/manipulation can be avoided.

The most neutral country winning seems fitting.

Netherlands though feels very strange and I imagine that will have ramifications. Surely they won’t just turn up next year happy as Larry after all this. Rightly so.

Well I'm delighted for Switzerland - I didn't think the staging was all that and people wouldn't go for it (although it was only 5th with the public..) but I love the song a lot more than Croatia so this is a very pleasant surprise.

But given Croatia was 3rd with the jury (I think?) I'm shocked that wasn't enough to get it over the line. All those 12s made Switzerland unstoppable

In France, viewing interest increased this year as nearly 5.5 million viewers followed the Eurovision 2024 Grand Final.

Nearly 2 million more viewers followed this years Eurovision Grand Final compared to the 2023 contest. An average of 5.4 million viewers followed the Grand Final on France 2, with a viewing share of 36.8% making it the most viewed show in France yesterday.

The audience peaked at 7.62 million viewers when Slimane performed his entry “Mon Amour”. The overall figure represents the largest audience for the Eurovision Song Contest in France 2021 when Barbara Pravi finished 2nd in Rotterdam.

In Germany, 7.98 million viewers followed the Grand Final of Eurovision 2024 live from Sweden.

Almost 8 million viewers followed the Grand Final of the 68th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest live on Das Erste and One. 7.38 million viewers watched the contest on Das Erste with a share of 36.8%, with an additional 600,000 viewers on ONE with a share of 3.0%. The number of viewers is up marginally over the 2023 contest in Liverpool when 7.93 million viewers watched the contest.

Overall the Eurovision Song Contest was the most watched TV show in Germany yesterday, comfortably beating ZDF by over 1.5 million viewers. Countdown shows were broadcast before and after the final, the pre-show was watched by 3.84 million viewers, with the post show seen by 2.74 million viewers.

That's a great result for France.

I have a vague memory of a Vogue-style spoken word section about the different EBU scrutineers - surely a fever dream?!

There were a smattering of lovely dancers here and there, but it certainly wasn't a vintage eye candy year.

Rewatching the voting, Petra fangirling over Joanna Lumley is very sweet.

Oh GOD.

I just remember I got hit on in the arena by Sheldon Riley (or at least my friend attested was him).

I found the reaction to Israel performance quite unnerving.

Obviously deserved, but that low hiss was quite something. What was it like in the arena?

Quite a bit down on the 2.8 million who watched last year, but a lot of that was probably the Käärjä effect.

Quite shocked Norway grabbed last! Not that it was good, but I thought the juries were guaranteed to lift it

(And quite annoyed because had it been Austria or Slovenia I'd be quids in  Luckily that was rectified by the Swiss win and Portugal coming top 10 :disco:)

As a viewer, I really enjoyed it. So much more than I expected. But there was an underlying tension that reared it's head especially in the voting. The Israeli delegation were a fucking disgrace.

But I did see a comment that Petra wasn't on top form. I imagine after the day they'd had I wouldn't be full of sass either.
