Never too early.

Luxembourg confirming that they'll be coming back. Not a huge surprise but glad to have confirmation. I'm hoping they work with a different team for their national selection though.

Other already confirmed participants

Belgium
Denmark
Malta
Spain

I guess the biggest question is whether the Dutch broadcaster takes part - I guess ultimately yes but this story will rumble on over the summer.

Let the 6 months of speculations over Monaco/Macedonia/Montenegro commence :disco:

Pleased about Luxembourg. Their entry was a bit on the light side, but with the numbers ever dwindling and certain countries hanging on by a thread, it's nice that haven't seen 2024 as a trial year (:eyes:) and decided NAH.

Which CANTON will we be visiting I wonder.

I think a Swiss hosted contest will help keep them in but it'll be interesting to follow the situation. Is it possible that the EBU ends up regretting the disqualification, and offers them an automatic place in the final next year as an apology/to help keep them in? Will there be a Joost redemption arc at some point (god knows why he'd want to put himself through it again, but it could be a nailed on win)?

No fucking chance.

I guess the Dutch situation will depend on what happens with Joost in the end. If the prosecutor announces tomorrow morning that there will be no further action then they will be quite rightly outraged and the EBU will have some serious fences to mend. On the other hand, if he’s charged and convicted with the incident turning out to be much worse than has been suggested, everyone will probably have to admit that the right decision was made.

I did have a nice chat with Sarah‘s hairdresser last night.

It must sound like all I did was CAT my way around the arena and Euroclub and you’d be right.

Funny you’d say that. Our commentator did mention an automatic place in the final as a possible way to make it up. I hope we won’t just roll over and turn up. I LOVE the contest but this was ridiculous and we can’t accept this. I’m sure this wouldn’t have happened to a big 5 country.

The lack of clarity hasn’t helped here at all. If the EBU had been clear at the start that there had been a physical altercation with a woman, would there have been sympathy for him? I think the fact that it was (apparently incorrectly) linked to the Israeli delegation brought him a lot of sympathy that I am not convinced he deserves.

I agree with you regarding the level of sympathy that he deserves. Under the Dutch broadcaster’s description, which is pretty much the best case scenario for him, he made a threatening movement towards a woman because he was being filmed when he didn’t want to be at a television show. That does seem a little bit like the act of a psycho.

Christ, if nothing else, a Joost redemption arc would be tedious and mean yet another year where a country/entry becomes a distraction of sorts. I hope it doesn't happen.

Even then I still think it’s not the right thing to disqualify the country “just in case”. Don’t let the artist perform and use a backup performance and take them out of the results later.

Whatever happens with Joost, I sincerely hope there will be repercussions over the way the EBU handled this year in general. Bar the final outcome (which ultimately they had little say in), it was borderline catastrophic.

At least she won ‘biggest hat’.

I really can't imagine Joost wanting to put himself through that again, but if the case turns up nothing the Netherlands should absolutely have some kind of recompense next year. They were treated appallingly.

First city to throw their hat in the ring

It seems like either Geneva or Zurich are the expected frontrunners for this.

If they gave the Netherlands an automatic pass to the final doesn't that mean 27 songs? Would they want that?

I'm not sure how else you can make up for it other than an apology, assuming he did nothing wrong.

Switzerland have hosted it once in an Italian-speaking canton and once in a French-speaking one, so presumably it should be a German-speaking one (not least as that represents the majority of the country)

When you consider the absolute dreck Switzerland were sending through much of the 00s and 10s, this really is the culmination of a fantastic turnaround for them. I can only think of the Netherlands who staged such a successful and prolonged comeback building to a win.

Never mind Céline, let's hope they get Rykka back (if they're not too busy in their new career as an astronaut!)
