Have we any BON IVER stans in this house?
Given the absolute car crash that has been Kanye West in the last decade, I think Bon Iver would now get my vote as 'fave 21stC artist'. Bon Iver and 22, A Million are masterpieces imo.
I've been sitting with this new EP during rare moments of sobriety this weekend. 'Speyside' has been hitting crazy hard for several weeks already (But maybe you can still make a man from me ... With what's left of me...
), but the two new tracks are less immediate albeit growing on me. I prefer Justin in 'lyrically cryptic' mode, and the stuff here is a bit disarmingly direct. I'm enjoying the lack of sonic ornamentation and the straight-up candor in his voice, and if this is the direction that he's going in I think I'm willing to travel alongside. Give us a new album already plz, it's been 87 years!
