J. K. Rowling and other TERFs

What I’m a bit confused about is how if we were to constantly make racist slurs or homophobic slurs at non-white or non-straight people it is challenged by social media outlets and the law, but when it comes to trans people and their equally protected characteristic of their gender, and their complaints of slights against them, it is just being allowed to carry on.

We really need a court case to destroy these bastards soon.

As much as she'd have us believe otherwise, she is obviously incredibly thin skinned when it comes to being called out.

Oh 100%

She tries to maintain this smirky arrogance, quite openly flaunting her wealth as a measure for doing what the fuck she likes and being able to get away with it, but she can’t actually see that she comes across as having a very frail psyche.

For some reason it's still in the same position as homosexuality was decades ago where it's seen as a "lifestyle choice" or "just confused" and this is the line where people say they're allowed to criticise (I.e. if they see it as a decision and not an attribute). People finally got the message that homosexuality isn't a choice but still see trans as a choice. Especially when for various reasons there *are* a few who experiment with gender (just as some experiment with sexuality) while still figuring themselves out so they see those and go "ahhh see it's a fad, they're doing it for attention"

That and it grossing them out as they're not used to it. From "ewwww men kissing" in the 80s/90s (less hate for lesbianism as women kissing is seen as hot) to the current thing of cherry picking those who don't "pass" so well and "ewww how grotesque" etc. Obviously India passes really well but in her case is vocal on Twitter and in other ways right wing so is weaponised.

Hasn’t she always maintained the “I’m not transphobic but…” argument in the past?

What she’s been saying in recent months cannot be anything but transphobic. Has she changed her stance or is she too far down the rabbit hole to understand her own point of view?

This video / podcast interviewing the ever-effervescent trans woman YouTuber Contrapoints offers a good run-through of the journey Joanne has been on over the last few years:

Interestingly, I had thought that basically what had happened is that she had posted that blog dipping her toe in the transphobic pond, received a pretty solid backlash to it, retrenched her beliefs, and has since fallen further and further down the rabbit hole until she reached the point of no return. However, this video explains that she actually liked some transphobic tweets a while before that essay which indicates she has always held these beliefs and has just been emboldened by the support she has received.

Still, I still think it is a bit of a lesson that if people in your life say something that dabbles with transphobic sentiments, it is wise not to jump down their throats because the evidence suggests that will only send them further down the pipeline.

Her transphobia was already present in her writing. Rita Skeeter in Harry Potter is a transcoded villain, she's described as being mannish, having a strong jaw and looking grotesque if I remember correctly. And of course JK is not very kind to fat people either, just look at the way she describes the Dursleys...

You see this defense strategy a lot - "people shouldn't be bullied for what you think or say"

About as flawed as America's free speech culture

Swap out "gays/women" with "white people" and that quote was probably used almost ad verbatim by KKK members in the 60s as a way of justifying their stance on civil rights.

So brave posting from her yacht on her holidays, where the law can't apply to her tweets.

The only comfort in all of this is how bitterly unhappy she is. Imagine being a billionaire and spending all your energy on your nasty prejudice. What a sad, sad bastard.

..and when they say "bullied" they mean "receive any pushback at all, ever".

And let's extrapolate; if you can't assess someone on the things they do and say, how SHOULD you assess someone? Something ridiculous like, oooh, I dunno, sexuality, ethnicity, gender...?

OH.

Did she once respond to a criticism online with something along the lines of "I'll be weeping at night as I check my bank balance?" - I seem to remember something like this.

That tells you all you need to know(if true). That's the type of childish comeback I'd expect from someone half her age.

I really think she's desperately unhappy.

Main story front cover of the Mail today, with Sunak backing her right to free speech. In the absence of having any successes to point towards, this is where the general election is being fought from.

What do you mean by this?

I thought it was pretty well known that most of the world thinks that the first amendment is flawed because so many people abuse the language and meaning. Too often used as an excuse to be prejudiced. You see the term “free speech” being thrown out a lot. It’s a problematic law for people who don’t understand nuance.

Yeah, idiots who don't understand nuance, or haven't actually bothered to learn, love to be prejudiced or mean and then claim they can't have any consequences. But I don't think that the actual amendment/law is flawed, and I'd rather have it than not. The 2nd amendment can go though

I guess I'll just use my FREE SPEECH to say that she is a bigoted cunt who might have all the money in the world, but clearly no inner peace or happiness

This is it, imagine having the wealth to do what ever the fuck you want, and spending all your time on twitter being a fucking nasty bully.

She's obviously very unhappy and probably quite lonely, if she needs that validation from others to complete her life.

Must be big fans of the golf course.

So true. Where Are The Women Without Penises Of Scotland????

it is important that people brave the rain to ask the really important questions. presumably the women without penises of Scotland are all at Trump's golf course.

Oh there'd be a "THE LOCAL ART FAIR WON'T LET ME SELL MY ADULT-HUMAN-FEMALE VASES" story in the Telegraph within a week

Some straight men are sex offenders too Josephina, so I’m not quite sure I understand your point?

Hey here’s a thought, why not use your platform to talk about SOMETHING ELSE?

Imagine writing one of the biggest book franchises of all time, and then wanting to be known first for this!

Literally going down the path of conflating trans people with paedophiles. Great.

💚🤍💜: "Show me where she...." shut the fuck up, we all know her intentions with this comment and where it's leading.

This is why I really don't get transphobic gays. This is the same shit they used to say about us back when "homosexual" was literally seen as a synonym for "paedophile". Who do they think the next target of these regressive ghouls will be?

A huge percentage of institutional rapes of minors are committed by CIS women, but she's not calling them that out. There's certainly far, far more of these crimes yearly than sex offences committed by trans people.

It's almost as if she's an evil transphobic cunt who remains silent on crimes committed by people she approves of.

Now bringing Judy Murray along for the ride too. :( such a shame as I’ve always really liked and respected her.

Yeah, she's been on that particular bandwagon for a while now. Sadly.

I just want to know how long she’s going to keep running with this agenda. Like, is she not bored yet?

She definitely did start off with a softer “I understand being TRANS is right for some” but the mask is absolutely off now and she just seems more and more unhinged.

It really angered at first. I was upset, outraged! At this point it’s pretty clear she’s just the biggest clown out there and she’s using her platform to show herself up on the daily.

And don’t start me on 50 year olds who go “but Harry Potter…” fucking GROW UP.

An open letter from Queen Daniel Radcliffe

(Apologies if it’s old, it doesn’t look old, has just started appearing on my feed)

I realize that certain press outlets will probably want to paint this as in-fighting between J.K. Rowling and myself, but that is really not what this is about, nor is it what’s important right now. While Jo is unquestionably responsible for the course my life has taken, as someone who has been honored to work with and continues to contribute to The Trevor Project for the last decade, and just as a human being, I feel compelled to say something at this moment.

Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I. According to The Trevor Project, 78% of transgender and nonbinary youth reported being the subject of discrimination due to their gender identity. It’s clear that we need to do more to support transgender and nonbinary people, not invalidate their identities, and not cause further harm.

I am still learning how to be a better ally, so if you want to join me in learning more about transgender and nonbinary identities check out The Trevor Project’s Guide to Being an Ally to Transgender and Nonbinary Youth. It’s an introductory educational resource that covers a wide range of topics, including the differences between sex and gender, and shares best practices on how to support transgender and nonbinary people.

To all the people who now feel that their experience of the books has been tarnished or diminished, I am deeply sorry for the pain these comments have caused you. I really hope that you don’t entirely lose what was valuable in these stories to you. If these books taught you that love is the strongest force in the universe, capable of overcoming anything; if they taught you that strength is found in diversity, and that dogmatic ideas of pureness lead to the oppression of vulnerable groups; if you believe that a particular character is trans, nonbinary, or gender fluid, or that they are gay or bisexual; if you found anything in these stories that resonated with you and helped you at any time in your life — then that is between you and the book that you read, and it is sacred. And in my opinion nobody can touch that. It means to you what it means to you and I hope that these comments will not taint that too much.

Love always,
Dan
