Switzerland 2021: Gjon’s Tears - Tout l’Univers

Even better than last years really good effort I think. This definitely feels like a contender too.

That deffo feels like the big ballad moment (although it's actually quite midtempo :D) that the year has been missing so far.
Juries are going to eat that UP, and I think it's much better than his song last year.

I really like it from 1:40 onwards. I'm still not really sure what last year's entry was seen as a contender. Didn't really like that song. I don't really like him as a performer but if he can pull this off I wouldn't mind this finishing in the top 10.

It's fine, I don't think it's significantly better or worse than last year. I can recognise that it's good whilst it's not something I'd keep coming back to myself.

I much prefer France in the big French ballad stakes personally!

I can't wait for the official who glowed UP and who glowed DOWN poll for returning artists

This is an upper for sure

I do wonder whether or not France and Switzerland will split the vote. I suppose there both different enough to prevent it though.

I’m not a fan of that particular vocal style. It’s a no from me I’m afraid.

I don't think it's the winner, but that's very good.

The vocal does feel like it's going to have to be pitch perfect though, or it could sound very unpleasant indeed.

It’s strong, and it’s probably in a better place to do well than last year’s song in this less ballad-heavy year.

It’s just not really for me I guess. And less original than last year too.

I don't think it's the winner, but that's very good.
At this point with just a few songs left to go I’m interested in seeing if we are going to get anything that will sound like THE winner. Out of what we have so far, I can see this, Lithuania, France and maybe Cyprus as potential winners, albeit none seem like front runners in the sense that Toy, Heroes, Arcade etc did.

Of course there’s still Iceland, Malta and Azerbaijan left that could easily bring the goods but if neither bring THE song then I think we’re in for a very exciting contest :disco:

Just as good as last year, and highly likely to trouble my top 3 (as per last year). Bravo aux LARMES DE GJON :disco:

If Iceland don't deliver THE SONG, I'm really starting to edge towards a potential SHOCK WIN for Cyprus. If they can keep the narrative up that the song is about SATAN WORSHIP, and deliver a good performance (Elena can actually SING which is a good start), it really could be ALL EYES ON THE DEVIL SONG on the night :disco:

It’s much better than last year’s shit, mainly because his notes when writing it were just ‘Arcade but in French’. I think it’ll do well, I can’t say as it does anything for me though.

I think it's pretty much the same as last year - which is no bad thing, as that was a worthy contender.

That won't be a problem for him on the night, though, as I can't imagine all that many people got round to hearing last year's song in the end, bar the Swiss and the fanz. Or was that any semblance of a hit in any French-speaking countries or elsewhere in the the DACH region?

He clearly does this sort of song very well. I don’t think it’s as good as last year’s entry though which was exceptionally good.

I don't love it, but I can already see what a big moment this would be on the night. Definitely see them putting him around around the end and melting everyone's hearts. I still think Iceland are due the win, but this could be a(nother) high finish for them.

Bern 2023 maybe. :eyes:

I enjoyed the dramatic bit just over halfway in. But yeah, it's lacking something for me just like last year's attempt.

I like it a lot on first listen, and I think it will be a grower. Much better than the French entry for me. And I think he looks cute (kind of moody) in the video

I think this is *great*.

Same as with last year's entry, his vocal styling has such similarities to Sigur Ros' Jonsi.

This is now really pulling away as the favourite in the odds. I can see why it's one of the favourites, but I can't quite see what separates it from the chasing pack.

Yeah it’s definitely my personal favourite but I’m surprised it’s becoming THE favourite.

I can't get past what a tough sell a French ballad is as a winner.

I mean, we did have one in PORTUGUESE so if course anything's possible, but I wonder if this will have the same impact without a narrative hook to rival Salvador's possibly impending DEATH.

I think if a French ballad is going to win then France has the edge. Once I got over my faves flopping in the French NF it certainly looked and sounded like a winning performance to me.

It's more or less got a clear run at the ballad vote.

Has it ever happened that a songwriter/producer won twice in a row? Wouter Hardy was also a songwriter/producer of Arcade.

You wouldn't believe the HOT FREE PROMO that this song is getting in Spain, it's so WTF that I wouldn't know how to explain it. He's performing live right now on tv here in Spain. No words.

I just don’t hear it. The way he performs it just does nothing for me. Three minutes of random shouting.
